What we do with your information

You came here because the City wrote you up, which is stressful enough without wondering where your details went. This page says plainly what we collect, what we do with it, and how to get it deleted. It describes what this website actually does, not what a template says.

The short version

We are a contractor, not an advertising business. We collect what we need to call you back about your property and price the work on your notice. We do not sell your information, we do not run advertising trackers on this site, and we do not set cookies.

If you only read one thing

Nothing you type into this site is sold or passed to a data broker. If you want your information deleted, call (224) 425-6059 and we will delete it. You do not have to give a reason, and you do not have to put it in writing.

What we collect

Only two things, and both come from you.

What you type into a form. Depending on which form you use, that is your name, phone number, email address, the property address, which items are on your notice, when you would prefer to be called, your hearing date if you have one, and anything you write in the notes box. Only the property address and a phone number are genuinely required. Everything else is optional and the form works without it.

The address you look up. When you type an address into the estimate tool, it is checked against a copy of the City of Chicago's published violation records that we hold ourselves. The lookup is not sent to a third party. We log the request IP address briefly to stop automated scraping, and that log is not connected to your name.

We do not collect anything else. There is no account to create, no password, and no profile built about you.

Cookies and tracking

This site sets no cookies and there is no cookie banner, because there is nothing here to consent to.

We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views. It was chosen specifically because it is cookieless and stores no identifier that could follow you to another website. It tells us that a page was viewed, roughly from where, and on what kind of device. It does not tell us who you are.

There is no Google Analytics on this site, no Meta pixel, and no advertising or remarketing tag of any kind. We do not build audiences from your visit and nobody is bidding to show you an ad because you read this page.

What we do with it

We use what you send us to:

  • call or text you back about the property you asked about;
  • pull the City's record for that address so we can price the work properly;
  • prepare and send you a written estimate;
  • do the work, pull permits and meet the inspector, if you hire us;
  • keep the records a contractor is required to keep about jobs it has done.

That is the whole list. We do not use your information to market unrelated services, and we do not add you to a bulk mailing list because you asked for an estimate.

Who else sees it

We do not sell your personal information, and we never have. We also do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, which is the other thing the privacy laws mean when they say “sell”.

A small number of others necessarily see some of it:

  • Licensed trade partners. If your notice includes plumbing, electrical or HVAC items, we pass the address and the scope to the licensed partner doing that part. They get what they need to do the work and nothing else.
  • The City of Chicago. Permit applications carry the property address and the owner's details, because the City requires them to.
  • Our hosting and email providers. They process data on our behalf under contract and cannot use it for their own purposes.
  • Anyone we are legally required to give it to, such as in response to a valid subpoena or court order.

Calls and texts

When you give us your number and submit a form, you are agreeing that we may call or text you about your property, including by automated means. That consent is not a condition of buying anything from us, and you can withdraw it at any time.

How to stop hearing from us

Reply STOP to any text, or tell us on the phone. It takes effect immediately. Message and data rates may apply, which is your carrier's charge and not ours.

We call and text about the specific inquiry you made. We do not send bulk marketing campaigns to this list.

How long we keep it

If you asked for an estimate and did not hire us, we keep the inquiry for about two years. Violation cases run slowly and people frequently come back a year later with the same notice, so having the original details saves you repeating yourself.

If you hired us, we keep the job file for seven years. Illinois gives a customer up to ten years to bring a claim on a written contract, and insurers and the City both expect a contractor to be able to produce records of what was done and when.

Ask us to delete any of it sooner and we will, unless the law requires us to keep it.

Your rights

Illinois has no general consumer privacy statute of the California kind, so we do not claim to be granting you rights under one. What follows is what we will actually do, offered to everybody regardless of where they live:

  • tell you what we hold about you;
  • send you a copy of it;
  • correct anything that is wrong;
  • delete it, unless we are legally required to keep it;
  • stop calling, texting or emailing you.

Call us and ask. We will respond within 30 days, and we will not charge you or ask you to justify the request.

Illinois biometric law

The Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (740 ILCS 14) covers fingerprints, face scans and similar identifiers. We do not collect any biometric identifier, on this site or on a job. The photographs we take are of buildings.

Photographs of your property

We photograph every job before, during and after. Those photographs are part of the record we give you and the inspector, and they are how we prove what condition we found.

We may also use them on this site and in our own marketing, as we do on the gallery page. We do not publish the street address alongside a photograph, and we do not publish anything from inside your home. If you would rather we did not use your building at all, tell us and we will not. That is a standing instruction, not a one-off.

Children

This site is for property owners and managers. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect anything from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has sent us something, tell us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change what we collect or what we do with it, we will change this page and move the date at the top. We do not backdate it, and we do not treat continued use of the site as agreement to a materially different policy. If the change is significant and we hold your contact details, we will tell you directly.

This policy covers Chicago Code Pros and this website. It does not cover other sites we link to, which have their own policies.
